Workshops

Apart from listening to the orchestras, choirs and ensembles, you can also take part in two great workshops!

  • Vocal Improvisation Workshop
  • Cello Workshop
  • Free Improvisation Workshop

13:3014:30 of 16:15-17:15 in Atlas Conference Room

Due to illness, the workshop instructor became unavailable. Because of this, the workshop is replaced by an a capella workshop, given by Suze Korf.

The notion that singing is something "to be good at" is a completely ridiculous one. Singing is the most natural and human way to make sound. Technical skills and knowledge of music theory are merely the vocabulary we have. How to tell a story with that vocabulary is decided in the moment. This is when music is made, and this is what this workshop focuses on: to find fun, freedom, and connection in the music. Listening and responding to each other in a welcoming environment, by letting go of shame and finding joy in singing together.

In this workshop, Jazz vocalist Afke introduces the concept of free improvisation to non-musicians without form or instruments: by focusing not on singing the most pretty notes, but on expressing freely through sound, participants will start to experience a glimpse of the magic that jazz musicians enjoy when they improvise together.

There will be two sessions for this workshop: one from 13:30-14:30 and one from 16:15-17:15. Make sure to sign up if you want to participate!

    Cello Workshop

    14:45-16:00 in Atlas Conference Room

Learn to play the cello in one afternoon? That's not possible?... That is possible!

Have you ever thought about playing the cello again? Cello? That super difficult string instrument with that characteristic sound, a range of almost four octaves and probably invented at the end of the 16th century? Yes, that's what we're talking about and now you get the chance to learn to play the cello in one afternoon. Of course, we will provide the cellos and the professional guidance of Hein Pijnenburg, who has decades of experience and great success with workshops for cello and saxophone.
